Dundee College is a
further education and
higher education college in the city of
Dundee,
Scotland. The college was established in
1985 by the merger of Dundee College of Commerce and Kingsway Technical College. It offer courses for people over the age of sixteen, involving school-level qualifications such as
Higher Grade exams, work-based learning, vocational training as well as Higher education courses at
degree-level, such as
diplomas. The college has around 23,243 students (3,088 full time and 20,155 part time).
The College has four main campuses throughout the city, the Kingsway Campus, Constitution Campus near the city centre, the Melrose Campus in
Stobswell and the Graham Street Campus.
As well as operating
learndirect scotland learning centres in its campuses; the College also runs a
learndirect scotland learning centre at the
Overgate Centre, in the town centre.
A new Media Centre was opened recently at the college which allows students access to the latest technology for working in the new media industries such as web design and for developing graphic and animation software. The college is also the site of
The Space which is a purpose built venue for performance and training and is the site for the
Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, opened by
Queen Elizabeth in
2002, the year of her
Golden Jubilee.
The college has also a close cooperation with the city's universities and schools, providing access courses to gain credits needed for advancement to university and providing vocational courses for secondary school students aged 14 and 15 for a few hours a week in fields such as construction.
